GOALS
A small law firm working from a 2 story restored home had 3 stand alone computers, one printer and dial up access to the Internet on each computer. They needed to be networked for file and print sharing as well as a shared high speed Internet connection.
OBSERVATION
The home was wired with Ethernet Cat 5 cable on the 1st floor where 1 computer and the network printer were located. The 2nd floor had 2 additional computers that needed to be networked to the 1st floor computer and network printer. The existing structure prevented running Ethernet Cat 5 cable from the 1st to the 2nd floor. The DSL modem was also installed on the 1st floor.
SOLUTIONS
We installed a wireless access point router with 4 LAN ports on the 1st floor next to the DSL modem. We connected the DSL modem, the network printer, and the 1st floor computer via patch cables to the LAN ports on the wireless access point router. We then installed wireless network adaptors in the 2nd floor computers. We now have a complete network for file and print sharing as well as for shared high speed Internet access throughout the entire home.
